Selection

Selection Committee:

The Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame Selection Committee is made up of 11 current members of the Hall of Fame whose responsibility is to choose the final candidates for induction.  One member will act as the Chairman of the Committee.

The Selection Committee shall:

  • Conduct the nomination and selection process for the award(s) to be made each year,
  • Recommend and oversee the planning and arrangements for the award(s) ceremony,
  • Conduct the presentation of the award(s)
  • Oversee the Hall of Fame display area.

At the beginning of each calendar year, the members of the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame are polled to determine if they wish to remain on the committee. The entire membership of the Hall of Fame is asked if they wish to serve if a position becomes available.  If a current member decides that they do not wish to serve, then a new member will be chosen from the list provided.  If someone currently serving has not been active, the committee may replace him/her by majority vote of the Selection Committee.

Selection Procedure:

After the nominations are received, they will be sent out to all members of the Selection Committee in early October.

The Selection Committee will meet in person or by conference call during the last two weeks of November each year to determine the Final Ballot from the current nominations.  The Committee members have the option at that time to state if they feel a candidate is not appropriate for the Hall of Fame.

The Final Ballot will be prepared and sent to all members of the Selection Committee.

Selection Committee members are required to rank each nominee (First Choice, Second Choice, Third Choice, etc.). The voting procedure is based upon the total number of candidates.  (For instance, if there are 10 candidates, a First Choice vote would receive 10 points, A Second Choice vote would receive 9 points and then down to the Tenth Choice which would receive 1 point.).  Selection Committee members must vote for each candidate, ranking them as described above.

The Selection Committee members will submit their votes to the Chairman no later than December 1.

The points are then totaled by the Chairperson and the Selection Committee will be advised of the results. The Selection Committee will review the results and then meet by conference call or in person to determine the inductee(s).

Up to three inductees may be chosen each year.  The Committee reserves the right to change the number of inductees if circumstances warrant.

Informing the Inductees:

A letter will be sent to nominees selected notifying them that they are to be inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.

Honoring the Inductees:

Inductees will be notified of the date, time and place of an awards ceremony. If deceased, the nearest family member will be contacted to inform them of the posthumous induction and the need for family presence at the induction ceremony.  Each inductee will receive a plaque recognizing their achievements and contributions. The inductees will be “introduced” at the awards ceremony by someone capable of highlighting the achievements of each inductee. A plaque with the inductee’s picture and biographical information will be prominently displayed in the Indiana Youth Soccer state office building. The names and accomplishments of each inductee may be forwarded to the National Soccer Hall of Fame as well as several state and national publications.

Note: The Hall of Fame will cover the cost of the banquet for the inductee and one other person.

Nominations not selected:

A notification letter will be sent to the person who nominated any individual not selected for induction. A nomination will be considered for up to three years. A nominee not selected after three years must resubmit a new nomination.

Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame Merit Award:

This award may be presented, from time to time, by vote of the members of the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.  This Award is designed to be given to a person who does not necessarily reside within the State of Indiana, but has shown exceptional dedication to the sport or to the advancement of the participants in the sport.  This person would be considered an honorary member of the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.
