Indian Youth Soccer

FAQs

Below are the answers to some common questions about the league.  If you have a question that is not answered here, please submit to ISL@indianayouthsoccer.org.

Q:  Will there be a Second Division for every age group?                                                                A.  No.  The ISL Technical Committee will recommend adding a second division only when the quality of applicants shows a need to divide the ISL approved teams into three groups instead of two to provide better parity among the divisions/teams.

Q:  Who changes uniforms when the referee has decided that both teams are dressed too much alike?
A:  Effective the spring season of 2008, the ISL rules have been changed to be the same as the state cup rules and other leagues in the state.  Home teams are to wear white/light jerseys, visiting teams are to wear dark.  The team not wearing the correct color will be required to change jerseys.

Q:  What are the substitution rules for ISL?
A:  Effective 1-07-08, games will employ unlimited substitution with the consent of the referee at the following times:

  • Prior to a throw-in in your teams favor
  • Prior to a goal kick by either team
  • After any goal
  • At half-time
  • At half-time of any overtime period, if applicable
  • If a team has a substitute player ready on their own position as described above and the opponent also has a player ready for substitution, both teams may substitute when signaled by the referee.

Q: Are the game times listed on the schedule local times?
A: Yes, all game times are listed as the local time to the site.  Indiana has 2 time zones.  The extreme northwest corner of the state and the extreme southwest “tip of the boot” are both on Central time.  The remainder of the state is on Eastern time.  If you have a question about the time zone for a particular location, you can contact the host team for verification.

Q.  How many Coaches may a team have on the sidelines during a match?
A.  A team may have up to 3 persons designated as team personnel (including the coach, assistant coach, manager, DOC, etc) in the technical area for their team during a match.  All team personnel in the technical area must be carded with that team except for the club DOC.  The DOC must be in possession of his/her ID at the match for the referees to check.  NOTE: All team personnel must stay within the technical area as defined by FIFA rules.  Please refer to the ISL rules document Rule 17.8 Coaching from the Sidelines for more information.

Q. Can a team play in two (2) leagues at the same time?
A.  It has been clarified in the ISL rules (Rule 5.3) that teams may not participate in MRL and ISL during the same season.

Q: What are the tie breaker rules if two teams or more are tied in the standings at the end of the season?
A:  This rule has been recently updated by the Advisory Council.    Rule 7.2   Tie-breakers

The following tie-breaking criteria will be used to determine the final standings for each Division:

  • Total points
  • Head to head results
  • Goal differential using the sum of all league games*
  • Goals scored using the sum of all league games*
  • Goals allowed using the sum of all league games *

For tiebreaker purposes, a four (4) goal maximum will be used for calculations.
